Sargent 559 EN Shim Kit | For 30 Series Surface Vertical Rods
The Sargent 559 EN is a specialized 12-piece architectural hardware kit designed to ensure a precision installation of Sargent 3727 and 12-3727 Series Surface Vertical Rod (SVR) Exit Devices. When a door face is not perfectly flat—common in storefronts with glass lite frames—these shims provide the 1/8" clearance required for the rods and chassis to operate without friction. Finished in EN (Aluminum Enamel), these shims offer a professional, seamless match for standard aluminum and satin chrome hardware.
Comprehensive 12-Piece Adjustment Kit
- Main Chassis Alignment: Includes (2) 1/8" shims to lift the center pushpad assembly away from the door, preventing mechanical binding.
- Latch Assembly Spacers: Includes (4) 1/8" shims for the top and bottom latch cases, ensuring the latches align perfectly with the strikes.
- Rod Guide Clearance: Includes (4) 1/8" shims for the vertical rod guides to keep the rods plumb and prevent them from rubbing against the door face.
- End Cap Support: Includes (2) 1/8" shims for the end cap assembly, maintaining a level profile across the entire device.
- Durable EN Finish: The Aluminum Enamel coating provides excellent corrosion resistance for high-traffic commercial environments.

Important Installation Note:
When utilizing the Sargent 559 shim kit on doors equipped with outside trim (levers or thumbpieces), hardware dimensions must be adjusted. Because the shims move the device 1/8" further from the door face, the spindle length, thumbpiece tailpiece, and thru bolt length must be increased accordingly to ensure proper mechanical engagement and security.
The Sargent 559 is a critical component for ensuring Life Safety compliance on non-standard doors. If your vertical rods are catching or the latches fail to "deadlock," it is often due to the chassis being slightly bowed by an uneven door surface. Using factory-spec shims is far more stable than using washers, which can cause the thru bolts to loosen over time. Always verify that your rods remain perfectly vertical after shimming to prevent internal spring fatigue.
