Commercial Door Thresholds & ADA Ramps
Create a safe and accessible entryway for every visitor with our professional-grade thresholds and ADA ramps. We specialize in barrier-free solutions that meet the 1:12 slope requirements mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Whether you need a simple beveled saddle threshold for a standard door or a modular aluminum ramp for a significant floor offset, our hardware ensures a smooth, trip-free transition for wheelchairs, walkers, and high-traffic pedestrian use.
Understanding ADA Threshold Requirements
To remain ADA compliant, a threshold must meet specific height and bevel standards. In new construction, the maximum height for a threshold is 1/2 inch. Any rise higher than 1/4 inch must be beveled with a slope no steeper than 1:2. These regulations ensure that wheeled mobility aids can navigate the doorway without being blocked or causing a jarring impact.
Modular Ramps vs. Saddle Thresholds
Choosing the right hardware depends on the "rise" or change in floor level at your opening:
- Saddle Thresholds: Best for standard transitions where the interior and exterior floor levels are nearly even. These provide a flat surface for door bottoms to seal against while protecting the floor joint.
- Modular Ramps: Essential when there is a significant height difference (offset) between floor surfaces. Our Modular Ramps can accommodate offsets from 1/2" up to 2-1/4", utilizing an interlocking design that maintains a safe 1:12 slope.
Safety & Durability
For exterior doors or wet environments, we highly recommend thresholds with a fluted top or a skid-resistant coating (like PemKote™). These finishes provide additional traction to prevent slips and falls. Our Rubber Transition Ramps are another excellent option for creating a "soft" transition that is both durable and easy to install on concrete or tile.
